Alongside your care

How we work with your doctor

You stay in your doctor's care. We fit around it.

  • Before your visit

Tell us what your OB or reproductive doctor has planned: appointment days, procedures and where you are in a cycle. We choose our visit days around yours.

  • During a cycle

We offer visits during a cycle, timed to your clinic's calendar. Your acupuncturist asks what you take and what your doctor has told you, and shapes each visit to match.

  • After, with a note back

If you want one, and only with your written okay, we send your doctor's office a short note on what we did. We never change a medicine or a plan your doctor set.

Before you come

What to bring from your doctor

Your doctor's office has most of this ready. Bring what you can, and we'll work with what you have.

  • A list of your medicines and supplements, with doses, or a photo of each label.
  • The name and phone number of your OB or reproductive doctor's office.
  • Your doctor's calendar for the next few weeks: appointments, procedures and cycle days, if you have them.
  • Any instructions your clinic gave you about what to avoid, and when.
  • A note or letter from your doctor, if they offered one.
  • Your written okay, if you want us to send your doctor a note afterward.

You fill in your health history on our intake form after you book, not on this website.

Who treats you

The letters, and who gave them

Each acupuncturist's state license is listed at the bottom of every page. A letter that isn't a license names the body that awards it.

  • State licenses

    • Jo Blackmon, Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.)

OH License no. 000000 · State Medical Board of Ohio

Licensed to practice acupuncture in Ohio

    • Hortencia Morales, Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.)

OH License no. 000000 · State Medical Board of Ohio

Licensed to practice acupuncture in Ohio

  • Letters and where they come from

    • Diplomate of Acupuncture (Dipl. Ac.), awarded by NCBAHM, formerly NCCAOM

Jo Blackmon and Hortencia Morales. A national exam and renewal, set by that body and separate from the state license.

    • FABORM: Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine

Hortencia Morales. A private professional fellowship awarded by that board. It is not a state license and not a medical specialty board.

The room

A quiet room and a plain plan

Visits happen in a small room with a padded table, linen and a window onto trees. Your acupuncturist explains each step before it starts, and you can say stop at any point.

The first visit runs about 75 minutes. Later visits run about 50.

  • Needles are thin, sterile and single-use

  • You stay clothed, with sleeves and pant legs that roll up

  • We write the plan down, so it is never left to memory

Questions

What people ask before the first visit

What do you do alongside my clinic?

We time visits to your clinic's calendar, ask what you take and what your doctor has told you, and leave every medical decision with your doctor. With your written okay, we send your doctor's office a short note on what we did.

Do I need a note from my doctor?

We don't ask for one to book. If your doctor or clinic gave you a note or instructions, bring them to the first visit.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people feel a brief pinch or a dull ache at some points, or nothing at all. Tell your acupuncturist what you feel, and they will adjust or stop.

Are the needles clean?

Yes. We use thin, sterile needles that are opened in front of you, used once and put in a sharps container.

Will I have to stop my medicine?

No. Tell your prescriber and your acupuncturist about everything you take, and never change a medicine because of acupuncture.

What if I am pregnant, or might be?

Tell us when you book and at every visit. We choose points and visit length with that in mind, and we ask you to check with your OB or midwife first.

Does insurance cover it, and can I use my HSA or FSA?

Some health plans cover acupuncture and many don't. Ask your plan administrator about HSA and FSA cards. How fees work walks through it.

What does acupuncture not do?

It doesn't replace your doctor, a test, a medicine or a procedure. If something feels wrong between visits, call your doctor first, or 911 in an emergency.
