Questions
Questions people ask
What do you do alongside my clinic?
We time visits to your clinic's calendar, ask what you take and what your doctor has told you, and leave every medical decision with your doctor. With your written okay, we send your doctor's office a short note on what we did.
Do I need a note from my doctor?
We don't ask for one to book. If your doctor or clinic gave you a note or instructions, bring them to the first visit.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel a brief pinch or a dull ache at some points, or nothing at all. Tell your acupuncturist what you feel, and they will adjust or stop.
Are the needles clean?
Yes. We use thin, sterile needles that are opened in front of you, used once and put in a sharps container.
How many visits will I need?
Most people plan a series of visits timed to their clinic's calendar, then check in with us every few visits. That is a plan, not a promise, and results vary.
Does insurance cover it?
Some health plans cover acupuncture and many don't. We don't bill plans, but we give you a receipt to send to yours. How fees work has the four questions to ask.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Many cards work for acupuncture. Ask your plan administrator before you book.
What should I wear and eat?
Wear loose clothes with sleeves and pant legs that roll up. Eat a light meal one to two hours before.
What if I am pregnant, or might be?
Tell us when you book and at every visit. We choose points and visit length with that in mind, and we ask you to check with your OB or midwife first.
Will I have to stop my medicine?
No. Tell your prescriber and your acupuncturist about everything you take, and never change a medicine because of acupuncture.
What does acupuncture not do, and when should I see a doctor instead?
It doesn't replace your doctor, a test, a medicine or a procedure. See your doctor first, or call 911 in an emergency, for heavy bleeding, severe pain, fever, fainting, or pain or bleeding if you are or might be pregnant.
