How fees work

Plain answers before you book, in the order people ask them.

  • Insurance we work with

We don't bill health plans directly, so you pay us and, if your plan allows it, ask your plan to pay you back. Whether a plan covers acupuncture, and how much, differs from plan to plan.

    • Most PPO plans: ask whether acupuncture is a benefit

    • HSA and FSA cards: ask your plan administrator before you book

  • If you pay yourself

You pay at the end of each visit by card. We tell you the fee for your first visit when you book, and we tell you before a visit starts if anything changes. If a fee would keep you from care, ask us: we keep a few reduced-fee visits for that.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

After each visit we give you an itemized receipt, called a superbill, that your plan may reimburse in part. The plan decides. Before you book, you can ask your plan:

    • Is there an acupuncture benefit?

    • How many visits does it cover?

    • Is there a copay or a deductible?

    • Do I need a referral?

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a good faith estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one in writing before the first visit. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

Because we don't bill plans, we can't check your benefits for you. Call the number on your card and ask the four questions above before you book. We'll answer anything about our side.

  • What the first visit includes

About 75 minutes: a conversation about your health, your medicines and what your doctor has planned, a treatment, and a short plan for the next few visits. The fee for the first visit is on your estimate. Your acupuncturist explains the risks before any needle goes in.
